The Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery of the WVU School of Medicine and the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute is actively recruiting a board certified/eligible General Thoracic Surgeon qualified for appointment at either the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank as a chief of thoracic surgery for Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV. The candidate will be joining a group of internationally renowned academic thoracic surgeons who are part of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute and Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. The advance training or competency in minimally invasive lung and esophageal surgery is required. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will be actively involved in the teaching of medical students, residents, and cardiothoracic surgery fellows.

Martinsburg, WV and home of Berkeley Medical Center in the eastern panhandle continues to post the largest population growth rate in the West Virginia, over 56% in the last 20 years with its population younger and more educated than the state average. There is record economic growth in the region and 40% of residents hold jobs in neighboring northern VA, suburban MD, and downtown DC. The panhandle has the lowest unemployment rate in the state, and with the expanding high income population, continued commercial and industrial development is projected to continue along the I-81 corridor. There is close access to Dulles International Airport, Baltimore International Airport, and Reagan International Airport in Washington, D.C.
Successful candidates must have an MD or DO degree (the employer accepts foreign educational equivalent) and be eligible to obtain an unrestricted West Virginia medical license. Candidates must be board-certified or board eligible in thoracic surgery.
