The Associate Dean of Students is a senior member of the Dean of Students (DOS) Office leadership team, reporting directly to the Dean and will act as the deputy in the Dean’s absence. The role serves as a front-facing liaison to the student community and advises the Dean of Students on a variety of student-related matters, along with driving intra- and inter-departmental projects on behalf of the DOS Office.

This position oversees Campus Life and Student Services. Campus Life includes Student Organisations & Leadership, Athletics & Recreation, and Intercultural Engagement (i.e., Diversity & Inclusion). The selected candidate will develop strategic plans for Campus Life, as well as drive the execution of programmes, policies and initiatives to support the cognitive, intrapersonal and interpersonal development of students. Student Services oversees international student passes, student billing, student insurance, parent/family relations and housing operations.

Yale-NUS will introduce a newly designed residential curriculum starting in academic year 2020-21. The Associate Dean will help further refine the residential curriculum and assist in implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Deputise the Dean of Students in his/her absence
  • Develop and refine the strategic plan for Campus Life and Student Services
  • Lead on matters relating to Campus Life, including student leader development, first-year orientation, diversity programming, family and parent engagement, etc
  • Oversee the design and implementation of innovative student programmes and support services across functions within the DOS Office
  • Conceptualise and collaborate on inter-departmental (including residential colleges, Centre for International & Professional Experience, Faculty, & Educational Resources & Technology) projects and programmes that are aligned with the goals and mission of the College
  • Supervise, mentor, and support the professional development of the Campus Life team and head of Student Services. Build a collaborative, supportive and engaged team
  • Serve as an advocate and advisor for student-specific and campus culture concerns. Engage deeply and directly with students and the entire campus community
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of programming with other internal and external stakeholders – Class Day, First-Year Assembly, Experience Yale-NUS Weekend, as needed
  • Oversee all budgetary and financial processes of Campus Life
  • Develop and implement a robust model of assessment and evaluation to support the enhancement of DOS office programmes and services
  • Engage various stakeholders within the College to resolve student-related financial and operational matters
  • Sit on the Dean of Students Developmental Grant selection committee and Residential Colleges Committee (RCC)
  • Work closely with the Assistant Deans and Rectors on residential life matters that relate to Campus Life and Student Services

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field, PhD preferred
  • 10 years of relevant working experience in institutions of higher learning
  • 5 years of experience in leading a student affairs-related function
  • Prior experiences working in multi-cultural settings; strong interest in working with a diverse population of students
  • Strong understanding and familiarity with a residential, liberal arts environment
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and driving change
  • Innovative and entrepreneurial mind set, adaptable and flexible work style, including the willingness to work flexible hours
  • Experience in crisis intervention and management preferred
