Engineering: Dean

Responsibilities:

Nominations and applications are invited for a visionary leader to serve as Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The Dean reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and will serve on the Deans' Council, which is the academic leadership team of the university.  The Dean works with the Provost, Vice Presidents, Deans, Academic Affairs personnel, faculty, administrative staff and students to ensure the engineering programs achieve academic excellence.

The Dean is charged with creating an environment that will support the development, implementation, growth, and expansion of disciplinary and interdisciplinary opportunities in STEM.  The Dean is responsible for overseeing and enhancing the education, research and service mission of the College; promote scholarly excellence; provide effective management of the College's fiscal policies, financial resources and budgets; engage in strategic initiatives and private fundraising; conduct operational planning, program review and enhancement; supervise staff personnel and manage promotion and tenure processes, and lead college-wide efforts of faculty and staff in student recruitment, retention, and success collaborating with academic affairs, enrollment management and student affairs.

The Dean will lead a vibrant College that has seen significant growth over the last decade, including a five-fold increase in research and development expenditure, an increase of 30% in faculty numbers, and more than 60% increase in student enrollment.  The Dean will work with faculty in establishing the vision, mission, and strategic directions that furthers the advancement of the programs within the College.

About the College:

The College of Engineering at UL Lafayette has over 2,000 students, the second largest engineering college in Louisiana. The College has an annual R&D budget exceeding $11 million. The College is committed to excellence in education and maintains national accreditation in all of its undergraduate programs. These programs include Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering and Industrial Technology. The College offers Master of Science degrees in each of those areas, along with a doctorate in each department with a Systems Engineering emphasis. With a view to integrating its role with the educational mission and the statement of purpose of the University, the College directs its activities towards economic development by integrating research and educational activities with industrial collaboration.  The Dean will work with department heads and faculty to maintain ABET and ATMAE accreditation and assessment processes for all programs.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have an earned doctoral degree in engineering or related fields, with a record of teaching, scholarship, and research accomplishments suitable for tenure as full professor in one of the College’s academic units.  Demonstrated success in administrative leadership, managing budgets, management, operation, accreditation and continuous improvement of educational and research programs, as well as fundraising and advancement activities, is expected.  Preferred qualifications of at least five years of academic administrative experience at or above the level of department head.  The Dean will demonstrate the ability to foster and maintain relationships through effective communication with key stakeholders e.g., students, faculty, staff, alumni, community and industry partners.
