The Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) ( https://kissinger.sais.jhu.edu ) in Washington DC seeks a scholar of the highest caliber for an endowed professorship: the Schmidt Chair, based in SAIS Europe in Bologna, Italy. The holder of the chair will also work to strengthen ties between SAIS Europe and SAIS DC.
SAIS is a global institution that offers students an international perspective on today’s critical issues. For 75 years, Johns Hopkins SAIS has produced leaders, thinkers, and practitioners of international relations, whose ideas and research inform and shape policy. SAIS offers a global perspective across three campus locations: Bologna, Italy; Nanjing, China; and Washington, DC. The school’s interdisciplinary curriculum is strongly rooted in the study of international economics, international relations, and regional studies; the goal of study at SAIS is to prepare students to address the multifaceted policy challenges in the world today.
SAIS Europe has been educating global leaders in the area of international affairs since 1955. Today, SAIS Europe teaches approximately 200 full-time students hailing from 40 countries and pursuing one of a number of degrees: Master of Arts, Master of Arts in International Affairs, Master of International Public Policy, Master of Arts in Global Risk, and/or Ph.D. The faculty is a diverse, international group of over 60 resident and adjunct professors and instructors. About the Opening
A generous gift has created the Wilson E. Schmidt Distinguished Professorship, located primarily at SAIS’s campus in Bologna, Italy.
For this chair, SAIS is searching for candidates who produce world class scholarship, engage in cross-disciplinary research, contribute to policy advising, and teach topics connected to the Center’s mission of historically informed statecraft and strategy. We are especially interested in PhDs in history and political science, though applications from other disciplines are welcome. Applications from women and minority candidates are especially encouraged.
In the first instance, HKC is searching for a senior scholar for a tenured appointment to this chair. In exceptional cases, however, appointments at other levels or as a professor of the practice may be considered as well.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.
The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
