This pool has been established to accept applications for possible openings for part-time instructors that may arise throughout the year. The Agriculture/Horticulture Department at LBCC offers a wide range of courses including Soils, Plant Science, Pest Management, Irrigation, Agricultural Chemicals, Seed Science & Technology, Landscape Maintenance, Turfgrass Management, Plant Propagation, Greenhouse Management, Career Exploration, Arboriculture, Tree Identification and Landscape. The faculty member develops, plans, and presents organized lectures, laboratory activites, and out of class assignments in accordance with approved course outlines.

Required Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture or related field and 4 years of successful experience in a related industry; additional experience may substitute for education.

Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture or a related field and teaching experience at a community college.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Physical ability to stand for extended periods of time. Requires good hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and/or to maintain greenhouse laboratory. Requires normal hearing and speaking skills to communicate with staff and students. Requires visual acuity to read numbers, words and identify plants. Sixty percent or more of the time duties require standing, and 20 percent requires some kneeling, stooping, or crouching, plus lifting of light to medium weight (10 to 50 pounds).

Work is performed indoors in a classroom, in a greenhouse lab or occasional field trips. Substantial time is spent working at a computer.

Essential Duties:

Impart excitement and enthusiasm into the teaching of agriculture and horticulture.

Develop course schedules and syllabi.

Plan, develop, and deliver classroom lectures and activities as well as write tests and develop other methods to evaluate student progress and competence.

Develop or adapt laboratory exercises students will find engaging and relevant.

Assure lab equipment is properly used and verify all equipment is present at the end of each laboratory section.

Work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and ages and successfully interact with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an education team.

Communicate effectiively in oral and written English.

Keep accurate grade and attendance records.

Establish and maintain opportunities for reasonable out-of-class contact with students.
