This pool has been established to accept applications for possible openings for part-time instructors that may arise throughout the year. Provide instructional program to meet the needs of the students and be in compliance with the Adult Education Act. Responsible to the Dean, Academic Foundations or designees in carrying out assigned instructional tasks. Perform such other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, or a specific language, and a TESOL certificate with experience teaching ESL, or Bachelor’s degree in Education or a specific language, and at least 3 years of experience teaching ESL .

Documented ability to plan and implement instructional programs appropriate for adult learners. Experience teaching adults in ESL, basic skills programs, or secondary school level alternative programs.

Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages ( TESOL ), or Master’s degree in Adult Education, or a second language with an English as a Second Language endorsement ( ESL ) with TESOL certificate, or Master’s degree in a related discipline with at least three years experience teaching ESL at the adult basic education level or higher and experience teaching adult students.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Requires the ability to work with staff and students.

Work is performed in a classroom setting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards.

Essential Duties:

Instruct assigned English to Speakers of Other Languages classes.

Teach classes as assigned following approved course outline; prepare and develop materials for assigned classes; provide students with course syllabi.

Determine learning needs of students.

Monitor and evaluate learning progress.

Provide classroom environment conducive to learner growth.

Maintain accurate records of attendance, student competencies, and progress.

Participate in curriculum development; recommend textbooks and other instructional materials and equipment; recommend course outline revisions.

Maintain college facilities and equipment.

Keep abreast of technological changes, developments in subject area, innovative teaching techniques, and continuously strive for professional improvement.

Attend staff meetings; work in cooperative manner with others in department and college; represent department at pertinent meetings as required.

Promote positive image of college and college programs.

Participate in department processes designed to recruit and retain students.

Assist with registration.
