This pool has been established to accept applications for possible openings for part-time employment that may arise throughout the year. Provides instructional support to faculty by assisting individuals or small groups of students in improving their skills. Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience: AA/AS degree in the technical aspects of a professional field such as adult basic skills development or a related discipline, plus a minimum of two years full-time directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position.

Abilities: Ability to independently perform the essential responsibilities and work tasks of the position. Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret staff instructions in order to assist students. Ability to understand the needs and differences of students, and appropriately respond to those needs. Ability to sensitively deal with students in helping with academic performance. Able to operate general office equipment, including word processing. Able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.

Knowledge and Skills: Working knowledge of instructional techniques and skills sufficient to instruct and tutor students on an informal level. Knowledge of subjects taught and strong communication skills to interact with students. Working knowledge of instructional practices and techniques. Knowledge of personal computers and word processing applications. Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of one year experience working with employees or students in a work or instructional setting involving teaching, tutoring or mentoring activities and/or set up/support of learning experiences. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Requires arm, hand, and finger dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard or other office equipment, and to communicate in writing with students. Requires sufficient visual acuity to recognize alphanumeric characters in student handwriting. Requires sufficient hearing and well-developed speaking ability to communicate with staff and students. Requires moving among students in the work environment to provide individualized support.

Work is performed in an instructional lab, classroom or office setting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards. Essential Duties:
Provides customer service by assisting students with registration and new student orientation, and by providing information about program and LBCC services and classes.

Prepares and maintains student CASAS records. Assists instructor in verifying and recording student attendance hours and updating student progress records. May administer, monitor, and correct tests and/or calculate and prepare final student grades.

Tutors students and instructs groups in completing faculty assigned activities. Develops individualized lesson plans and provides further instruction to students needing additional assistance. Assists in correcting student work and may review corrected work with student.

Provides assistance to students in the use of computer software and hardware.

Ensures classroom is maintained in a neat and orderly fashion. Maintains supply of class materials and reference materials for student and/or instructor use.

Substitutes for instructor as needed and assists with classroom supervision of students and contacting of absentee students. Assists in informing instructor of student needs and problems.

Inventories classroom materials and orders supplies. Performs clerical duties such as copying, filing, and recording data.

Participates in staff development activities and staff meetings upon request.
