The Life Skills Faculty is responsible for planning, coordinating, and teaching a Life Skills/Work Readiness class and assisting with each student’s employability development plan. The Life Skills Faculty is responsible for participating as a member of an inter-agency program.
Education and Experience: BA/BS degree in adult education, counseling, social work or related field. Teaching experience, particularly working with non-traditional and/or low-income students. Experience teaching adults life and work-related skills, such as communication, team work, balancing work and family, workplace conduct, decision making, problem solving, career exploration, goal setting, and job search. Experience assessing areas such as interests, aptitudes, and job-related skills.
Prefer master’s degree in adult education, counseling, social work or related field. Prefer community college experience and/or JOBS (welfare reform) experience.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Essential Duties:
Teach Life Skills/Work Readiness classes; areas include, but not limited to: assertiveness training, stress management, decision-making and problem-solving skills, communication and interpersonal skills, self-concept strengthening, goal setting, and job search skills.
Assist in the development of an individual education/employment plan for each student in the life skills/work readiness class.
Serve as an student advocate, monitor and assess their progress to ensure employment and education requirements are being met.
Maintain appropriate records and documents for all students participating in the life Skills/Work readiness class.
Act as a team member of the JOBS program.
Other related duties as assigned.
