Job Summary:

This pool has been established to accept applications for possible openings for part-time instructors that may arise throughout the year.

The Parenting Education instructor of a parent-child class is responsible for working with parents to deliver a quality educational experience for the children and a multi-level educational program for the enrolled parents. The instructor teaches in a classroom designed and equipped for parent-child learning. The instructor becomes a part of the Parenting Education team that works together to provide parents information and skills that help strengthen families, and participates in in-services to support and strengthen the quality of educational services provided.

Required Qualifications:

All job offers are contingent on the successful candidate passing a criminal background check.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree, with the preferred discipline Child Development, Human Development, Early Childhood Development or closely related area, plus 3 years’ experience teaching groups of young children, OR seven years of teaching experience in early childhood, education or a related area.

Licenses and Certificate: Required a current First aid and CPR card prior to start of class.

Abilities: Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities. Experience teaching young children or adults.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Position involves light to medium work including walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, carrying and lifting of light to medium weight (10 – 50 pounds). Visual acuity and strong arm, hand and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination. Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to carry on routine conversations.

Work is performed in a classroom setting with exposure to the typical range of activity experienced in a setting with small children. Employees are subject to exposure to communicable or infectious diseases.

Essential Duties:

Participating in pre-service and in-service training offered by the Parenting Education Department staff. The instructor is expected to learn the philosophy and goals of the program and to understand how to implement them in the instructional activities for which the instructor is responsible.

Using the resources of the Parenting Education Department, the course outcomes outline and best practices to plan and offer an educational program for parents and children.

Developing an age-appropriate education program for the young children.

Following the policies and procedures outlined in the instructor orientation.

Responsibilities include facilities coordination, recruitment of students, participating in the Family Fun Day and other department activities.
