Job Summary

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) encourages applications for an experienced and qualified Instrument Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) Manager to lead and lead all aspects of the TSIS-2 assembly, integration, and test effort. The Total and Spectral Solar Irradiance Sensor 2 (TSIS-2) measures the sun’s energy input to Earth. TSIS-2 adds to four decades of continuous solar data records. TSIS-2 comprises 2 instruments, the Total Irradiance Monitor (TIM) and the Spectral Irradiance Monitor (SIM). TSIS-2 is designed, manufactured, and tested at LASP. The launch of TSIS-2 is planned in 2023.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Apply engineering experiences across a wide breadth of fundamental engineering fields to support integration and test phases of space flight system development programs.
  • Work with scientists, engineers, and operations personnel to define requirements for space flight hardware performance with a focus on testability.
  • Define detailed hardware and software integration and test programs for flight and non-flight space systems.
  • Architect and implement support equipment for space flight verification programs.
  • Conduct trade studies supporting space systems requirement identification and verification strategies.
  • Manage cross-functional teams of engineers, operations personnel, subcontractors and assemblers to implement space flight systems integration and test programs. Manage within cost, schedule, and resource constraints of the established project baseline.
  • Develop subcontract specifications and statements of work for subcontracts supporting integration and test activities.
  • Provide input into proposals specifically for the development of project integration and test activities and resource identification.
  • Provide oversight and support execution of environmental testing of space flight systems, including mechanical, thermal, electrical, and electromagnetic testing.
  • Provide oversight and support execution of performance testing of space flight systems, including calibration or characterization testing.
  • Contribute to the development of LASP intellectual property to improve SEIT group processes and tools.

  • Domestic travel required (approximately one trip per quarter with additional travel required to support).

What We Require

  • At least five years Systems Engineering experience on NASA science missions (other relevant technical experience on NASA missions may be considered).
  • BS/BA or higher-level degree in engineering or applied sciences.
  • Experience with integration and test of a space flight instrument program.
  • Experience working in cleanroom environments with ESD sensitive hardware.
  • Experience with configuration management, anomaly management, risk management, and system safety.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Strong familiarity with LABVIEW and MATLAB.
  • Familiarity with OASIS-CC, STOL or CSTOL.
