POSTDOCTORAL FACULTY FELLOW
Liberal Studies
New York University Arts and Science

Liberal Studies at New York University invites applications for two Postdoctoral Faculty Fellow positions to begin September 1, 2019, pending administrative and budgetary approval.

Liberal Studies provides a unique interdisciplinary educational experience to undergraduate students. The Liberal Studies Core consists of a two-year interdisciplinary global curriculum drawing on great works across civilizations. The Global Liberal Studies Bachelor of Arts, one of NYU’s premier liberal arts degrees, builds on the global core with an upper division interdisciplinary set of concentrations that direct students toward different areas of global study.

Liberal Studies Postdoctoral Faculty Fellows teach one course for the first semester, and two courses for each subsequent semester in the Liberal Studies Core.  Fellows work closely with an assigned Faculty Mentor, and attend a series of pedagogy workshops that explore innovative approaches to interdisciplinary teaching, syllabus design for a global curriculum, and strategies for promoting inclusivity and equity in the undergraduate classroom.  Fellows are appointed for two years, renewable for a third year based on performance and programmatic need; they are non-tenure track and non-renewable beyond the third year.

We seek postdoc applicants in the following areas:

Cultural Foundations

PhD in Classics, Foreign Language Literatures, English, Comparative Literature, World Literature, Art History with literature teaching experience, or Anthropology with arts focus.  Candidates should have the ability to teach the arts produced across the globe in a variety of artistic media from antiquity to the early 18th century in our Cultural Foundations I and II sequence.

Social Foundations

PhD in Political Theory, Philosophy, History, or Religious Studies, with relevant teaching experience.  Candidates should have the ability to teach great works from around the world that examine enduring questions and explore iconic ideas of philosophy, religion, political and social theory, and history from antiquity to the early 18th century in our Social Foundations I and II sequence.

Minimum qualifications: a Ph.D. in hand by the date of appointment; commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching required.  Some college-level teaching experience, and publications or other evidences of outstanding scholarship and relevant professional activity are desirable.  Successful candidates will have received the Ph.D. no more than three years before taking up the appointment.  Salary is $45,000 p.a. plus University benefits.  Fellows will be provided with offices, computers, and professional development funds.

Applications consisting ONLY of a cover letter and a current c.v. should be submitted by midnight, December 17th, 2018, Eastern Standard Time (US).  Applications submitted after this date will not be considered.
