Associate/Full Professor of Cultural History/Politics
1. An earned Ph.D. in a Social Sciences or Humanities field with
a focus in Chicanx/Latinx Studies from an accredited institution
(or equivalent) is required at the time of application.
2. Evidence of a cultural history and/or cultural politics specialization broadly defined.
3. Evidence of successful teaching experience and teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level and/or graduate level.
4. Evidence of sustained academic scholarship and research publications in in Chicanx/Latinx Studies.
1. Evidence of expertise in urban cultural politics with an
emphasis in historic analysis of Chicanx and/or Latinx
2. A documented record of research and/or scholarship that considers social or political implications of cultural productions, expressions, and/or movements.
3. Demonstrated expertise in a closely-related area such as public history, indigenous movements, and/or digital humanities.
4. Demonstrated campus/department leadership.
5. Evidence of community-engaged scholarship and/or pedagogies
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.
Faculty in Chicana(o) & Latina(o) Studies are expected to be committed to interdisciplinary scholarship that links our classrooms to local Chicanx and/or Latinx urban communities and movements. The successful candidate will teach existing courses in the curriculum, as well as develop new courses.

Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Fifty years ago, in the midst of struggle, Chicano Studies was born at Cal State LA. As the first Chicano Studies program in the nation, it began with four classes. This academic year, the Chicana(o) and Latina(o) Studies (CLS) Department, with over 150 annual course offerings, recognizes its 50th anniversary. CLS has helped produce alumni who are scholars, educators, politicians, artists, health care providers, cultural workers, and more. Our alumni, current students, and faculty continue to engage in scholarly excellence and public service, transforming Los Angeles and beyond. With Dr. Dolores Delgado Bernal as the new chair, the anniversary marks a rebirth of the department and a time to build upon our legacy of academic achievements, creative projects, and public service. The University remains committed to CLS and rededicates itself to the vision of the Department by launching two faculty searches in Fall 2018.
