Rio Piedras Campus

The University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, is the largest and oldest campus of the country’s Public University System. Located in the capital of Puerto Rico, San Juan, UPR is the territory of the Gallitos and Jerezanas.

For more than a century, UPR has been the main educational center and promoter of scientific research in the country.  It has also served as an axis of social mobility, opening the doors for thousands of young people to greater opportunities and a better quality of life.

The University of Puerto Rico is recognized for its emblematic Tower, the main symbol of the university and of academic excellence. It has played a crucial role in preserving island culture, safeguarding Puerto Rico's contemporary history, promoting economic growth, and upholding the values that shape our identity as a community.

With both undergraduate and graduate student communities represented, the campus distinguishes itself as the primary research center in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, being the only one in Puerto Rico to hold the R2 research category of the Carnegie Foundation.

It also stands out for being one of the most important cultural centers of the island, with noteworthy landmarks such as the University of Puerto Rico Theater and the Museum of History, Anthropology and Art.
