UNT’s Department of Philosophy and Religion is the leading program in environmental philosophy in the United States, with strengths in environmental justice, energy policy, food ethics, comparative philosophy of religions, philosophy of water, and biocultural conservation. The department encourages both traditional scholarship and more practical, engaged, and interdisciplinary approaches in philosophy, as well as work that addresses public concerns. Members of the department pursue research agendas commensurate with UNT’s ambitions and obligations as a Carnegie-ranked Tier One public research university that is also both a Hispanic and Minority Serving Institution. We offer BA programs in philosophy and religion and MA, and PhD programs in philosophy.
