DEAN
FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
Known for its pioneering approach, York University is a
community of 56,000 faculty, staff and students, dedicated to
pushing the boundaries of knowledge and building unique paths to
success in chosen fields. With over $15 million annually in
competitive research funding, the more than 200 full-time faculty
members of the Faculty of Science & Engineering provide a high
quality education to over 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students
in a wide range of basic and applied programs. For further
information please access www.yorku.ca/web/index.htm
The Dean is the Faculty's chief academic and administrative officer
and leads its teaching and research missions, as well as directing
the budget, general administration and future development. The Dean
is also an important member of York's senior leadership team,
contributing to the future direction of the university. As
indicated by the seniority of the role, the successful candidate
will bring a strong record of academic and administrative
experience to the position and a track record of vision, innovation
and above all outstanding leadership.
A $70 million state-of-the-art new Life Sciences building, funded
by the Federal-Provincial Knowledge Infrastructure Program, is
under construction and is expected to be completed in the spring of
2011. This demonstration of government support for research and
higher education in the science and engineering fields has been
echoed by the President of York University, who places a high
priority on these important areas of study for the advancement of
the university's mission over the next ten years.
A detailed position profile is being developed by the Decanal
Search Committee. Consideration of candidates will begin in October
2009 and will continue until the position is filled. The
appointment is for a five year term, commencing July 1, 2010.
York University is committed to Employment Equity and has
implemented a policy of Affirmative Action. All qualified
candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and
Permanent Residents will be given priority.
